    Mission Statement

    The Closter Fire Department stands ready and willing at all times to deliver first class fire protection and services to the residents of the borough. The
    department's never-ending efforts are performed to help preserve life safety and protection/preservation of property when called upon

    Background

    The Closter Volunteer Fire Department is responsible for fire safety and protection of all properties in the borough, This is accomplished through education,
    prevention, and suppression. The department is totally manned by volunteers who donate their time on an as needed basis 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
     

    The department, which was established in 1893, is located in the northeastern section of Bergen County approximately 10 miles north of New York City. The
    department has served the residents of Closter for over 125 years as a volunteer department. The Borough of Closter is primarily a bedroom community with a small downtown business area and several commercial/industrial areas across 3 square miles.

     

    Current membership is 45 members of which a wide range of ages is included. Several generations are covered under this membership and the dept is proud of the wealth of experience and knowledge it has on board. The dept also runs a Junior Fire Dept for high school students to join. The program was established to help these young adults develop responsibility, community service awareness, and to provide a constructive spare time activity for these young adults to participate in.
